The first 45 km around Arcachon Bay were honestly pretty dull. The area is heavily built up, and the bike path crosses roads hundreds of times. Having to slow down at every crossing completely kills any sense of flow.

After that, the cycle path runs alongside busy roads for quite a while, although you occasionally get views of the Dune of Pilat.

I was puzzled when I spotted half a bumper lying on the bike path. About 100 metres later, I found the culprit: a fully grown wild boar — dead, of course.

From kilometre 55 onwards, the route becomes a bit quieter again, but it still falls well short of the quality of yesterday’s ride.

Only the final 20 km were genuinely enjoyable, as the route once again led through a beautiful pine forest.

After 145 km, I checked into the only campsite along the bypass route. Cyclists are given their own designated pitches in the woods. Very nice, although the sandy ground and lack of seating were a bit of a downside.

Less than an hour later, Daniel rolled into the campsite as well, and in the evening we treated ourselves to a great meal in the nearby surfer village.
