This morning, a bird watched me while I was packing up my tent. It wasn’t shy at all and, as a little thank-you, it left something on one of my bike bags.

I got rolling at 8 a.m. as usual, and wow, the first 30 km were tough. The route was constantly going up and down—not with long climbs, but with short, punchy ramps that never really let me settle into a rhythm.

The route itself was beautiful, though: lively towns, fascinating marshlands, occasional views of the sea, and plenty of nature. My personal highlights were the Marais d’Olonne wetlands and the beautiful town of Les Sables d’Olonne.

After yesterday’s disappointment with the campsite, I decided to treat myself to an Airbnb in Marans tonight. The last 20 km were hard work: 36°C heat and rough gravel tracks that really rattled me around.

On the bright side, it meant I could finally relax a bit at the accommodation and catch up on writing my daily ride reports.
