How to Eat an Elephant? 🐘#
A few years ago, I came across reports about the European Divide Trail. The idea of cycling across Europe immediately fascinated me.
At that time, after more than 20 years of mountain biking, I switched to a gravel bike. Suddenly, long distances became doable for me. I started thinking about whether I could ride the European Divide Trail myself. But family, work, and other commitments aren’t really compatible with such a long route. I quickly realized that, due to its nature, the European Divide Trail isn’t ideal for my tight schedule.
So I planned my own route based on the EuroVelo routes. This should allow me to make faster progress. My goal is to ride this route in sections that fit my schedule. Or, in other words: to eat the elephant one bite at a time. Of course, the logistical effort increases the further the sections are from home, but unfortunately, that can’t be avoided.
With that in mind, I set out on the first section through Germany in 2024. Long story short: it was fantastic!
